Full Description

A group of barrows and mounds in Seven Barrow Plantation: (2)

A probable grass covered ditchless bowl barrow (not mentioned by Authy 2 or 3), 18.0m diameter and 0.5m minimum height is situated at 'N' - SY 64839250. (Not shown on OS 6" 1903). (4)

An unusual barrow group situated near the crest of a broad south-west spur. The undergrowth which formerly obscured the group and limited investigation has been removed and the north-west half of the area completely cleared of woodland. This part is regularly used as a cattle pen with the consequence that severe damage is incurred by their trampling, especially to the lower monuments. See plan and ground photographs.

'N'. SY 64849249. A round barrow in arable (depicted on the OS 25" 1929), now detectable as a flinty mound 16.0 metres in diameter and 0.2 metres high. Barrows surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. (7)

Probable barrow nearly ploughed out.

‘This barrow may be scheduled but not mentioned by Grinsell and RCHM when they visited this area in the 1950s. Site lies east of a fence line in a field regularly ploughed and in a crop of kale when visited. Severely reduced and spread by ploughing; almost ploughed out according to Grinsell. Remains could not be seen because of dense growth of kale. Other barrows in this group lie west of the fence line in coniferous woodland and in ley pasture recently cleared of trees and scrub.’
