Monument record MDO3984 - Lime kiln at Links Plantation, Hilton

Please read our .

Summary

A lime kiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the tithe map (1843) and the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who recorded that some (40-59%) of the kiln structure survived in poor condition. It was not possible to determine what type of kiln construction this was. The digital Ordnance Survey map available in 2006 shows a feature at approximately this location, but it is not clear whether this represents the surviving remains of this limekiln.
