Full Description
Several long linear banked earthworks are visible on St Catherine's Hill on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features are considered likely to be post medieval or modern in origin, perhaps associated with post medieval quarrying or modern military activity on St Catherine's Hill. Alternatively, they may be older in origin, possibly associated with the Roman camp or medieval St Catherine's Chapel. One set of east-west aligned parallel banked earthworks between 100m and 125m in length may be associated with a post medieval or modern trackway or road.
The features are under heathland vegetation and tree cover on a 2014 vertical aerial photograph and are not visible (2).
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
