Full Description

Probable post medieval extractive pits to the north of Tole Cottage, Sopley, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). A row of three water-filled depressions are visible. These may be part of a series of naturally formed hollows of geological origin aligned northwest to southeast along the west side of the Avon Valley at Sopley. The scarped edges may indicate some extractive workings, however.

The features appear to have been infilled and levelled by 2009 as part of re-landscaping (2).

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
