Post medieval extractive pits on Sopley Common are visible on current Lidar imagery. The pits are shown as clay pits and sand pits on the OS 1st Edition map and may be associated with a post medieval brickyard. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

Post medieval extractive pits on Sopley Common are visible on current Lidar imagery (1).

The pits are shown as clay pits and sand pits on the OS 1st Edn map (2) and are located to the north and south of a post medieval brickyard (MWX4815), with which they may be associated.

The extractive pits to the south of the former brickyard are still visible on current Google Earth imagery (3); the pit to the north is under tree cover and not visible.

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
