Full Description
A ditched circular ditched earthwork on Sopley Common is visible on current Lidar imagery (1). The earthwork may be early 20th century military in origin although an earlier date and agricultural function is also possible.
The earthwork measures 13.8m in diameter and has no obvious entrance. It is located within an area of military activity and may be early 20th century military in origin, possibly associated with a military camp or training area. Alternatively it may be an older historic enclosure, possibly agricultural or horticultural in function, perhaps a medieval or post medieval bee garden.
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
The earthwork is under tree cover and not visible on current Google Earth imagery.
