Summary

A low indistinct mound on the ridgeway within Quomp Copse is visible on an RAF 1954 aerial photograph and on current Lidar imagery. The feature may be a possible Bronze Age barrow, one of a wider barrow cemetery. The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

A low indistinct mound on the ridgeway within Quomp Copse is visible on an RAF 1954 aerial photograph and on current Lidar imagery (1 and 2). The feature may be a possible Bronze Age barrow, one of a wider barrow cemetery on the ridgeway to the east (incorporated within MDOs 8807-10; MDOs 39664-7; MWX3257-9 and Hob UID 458505) .

On current Lidar imagery this feature is shown as a low mound measuring around 10.5m in diameter (2). A shallow depression in the top of the feature may be the result of tree removal (1).The feature may be the remains of a Bronze Age barrow but alternatively it could be a feature of natural origin.

The mound is under tree cover on current Google Earth imagery (3).

The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
