Full Description

Historic ditched and banked field boundaries to the east of Hurn Court are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The field boundaries are predominantly straight and rectilinear in form and appear to sub-divide historic enclosures shown on the OS 1st Edition map. The features are likely to be post medieval in origin, although an earlier date is also possible.

The majority of features are clearly visible as earthworks under pasture on Google Earth imagery of 2012 (2). The ploughing of some fields has resulted in the loss of visiblity of some boundaries, although current Google Imagery indicates these may still survive as shallow earthworks (3). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
