Summary

Two small post medieval extractive pits in fields to the east of Throop, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

Two small post medieval extractive pits in a field to the east of Throop, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The southeastern pit is located just west of the historic field enclosure boundary and measures around 14m in diameter. The northwestern pit is located adjacent to, and possibly truncated by, an early 20th century field boundary. The surviving feature measures 13m wide by 6m deep.

The features are located within an area of modern allotments on current Google Earth imagery (2) and no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
