Full Description

Banked field boundaries in fields to the west of Throop, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The boundaries are rectilinear in form and clearly sub-divide once longer linear fields shown on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The form and alignment of the boundaries indicate a probable post medieval or early twentieth century origin, probably associated with sub-division of former medieval strip fields within a larger area of medieval open field.

The linear boundaries are under housing development on current Google Earth imagery (3). The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
