Full Description

A ditched historic field boundary is visible in fields to the southwest of Hurn Court Farm, Hurn, on current Lidar imagery (1). The linear boundary has a slight curvilinear form and extends on a broadly north northeast to south southwest alignment towards the north bank of the River Stour. The boundary may be of post medieval origin although an earlier date is possible. The boundary is located within an area of post medieval gravel extraction (MDO39637), which in places appears to re-use sections of possible former medieval strip field boundaries; many of the angular extractive scarps are on the same alignment as this field boundary.

The boundary is faintly visible as a ditched linear on 2012 Google Earth imagery (2) and was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
