Full Description

The parallel ridges of historic cultivation in a field to the northwest of Berry Hill, Bournemouth, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The ridges align with adjacent field boundaries of possible medeival origin and are wider set than an area of possible post medieval or later cultivation to the east (MDO39631). They may therefore be associated with medieval ridge and furrow, although a later date is also possible.

Aerial photographs indicate that the field containing the cultivation marks appears to have remained consistently under grass pasture since the 1940s and the field is still under pasture on current Google Earth imagery, although the cultivation marks are no longer visible (2 and 3).

The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
