Full Description
The narrow parallel ridges of historic cultivation in fields to the north of Berry Hill, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The ridges extend across banked field boundaries of possible medieval or early post medieval origin (MDO39630) and may be associated with post medieval ridge and furrow, although a later date is also possible.
Aerial photographs indicate that the fields containing the cultivation marks appear to have remained consistently under grass pasture since the 1940s and the fields are still under pasture on current Google Earth imagery, although the cultivation marks are no longer visible (2 and 3).
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
