Full Description
A banked horseshoe -shaped enclosure on the west side of Chapel Lane, East Parley, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1 and 2).
The enclosure measures around 9m long by 8m wide with a possible entrance on its west side. It is thought likely to be post medieval or early 20th century in origin and possibly agricultural in function. It may be a medieval or post medieval bee garden.
The enclosure appears to be in fairly poor condition by 1948 with eroded banks overgrown with scrubby vegetation. It is no longer visible on an aerial photograph of 1959 (3).
The site is currently under sports fields associated with Bournemouth Sports Club and the enclosure is no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery.
The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.
