Full Description
Post medieval ditched and banked field boundaries and trackways at Fillybrook Bottom are visible on 1950s aerial photographs (1).
The field boundaries comprise one long ditched linear aligned SSW to NNE and with a rectangular banked enclosure at its southern end. A series of smaller ditched and banked linears are located to the west of these and on a more N to S alignment. The ditched trackways run perpendicular to the field boundaries, broadly SE to NW. All these features correlate with the historic field boundaries on the OS 1st Edition map (2) and underlie the 20th century trackways in this area, indicating a probable post medieval or earlier origin.
Much of the site is under dense tree cover on current Google Earth imagery, but some of the ditched earthworks are still visible in the clearer areas (3). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.
