Full Description
A small historic or modern semi-circular enclosure on East Parley Common is visible on 1940s aerial photographs and was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP (1).
The enclosure measures 9m by 10m and is open on its northeast side. Internally the banks narrow either side of the entrance to create an angular diamond shape. The enclosure may be modern and associated with wider wartime military activity on the heathland north of Christchurch. Alternatively it may be a medieval or post medieval agricultural enclosure, possibly a bee garden.
The enclosure was sited on open heathland in 1946 but by 1982 was within fields under plough and no longer visible by this time (2).
