Full Description

A sub-rectangular banked enclosure on East Parley Common is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The enclosure measures around 17m by 9m and may have an entrance on its east end. It is thought likely to be post medieval or modern in origin, possibly an earthwork or former structure associated with post medieval horticultural activity or military activity on the heathland to the north of Christchurch during World War I and World War II.

Alternatively, it may be the remains of a medieval or post medieval bee garden or an agricultural enclosure.

On open heath but under scrub by 1947 (2). On east side of field under plough and deteriorating by 1982 (3).

It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP. The site is no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery.
