Full Description
A series of ditched field boundaries of probable post medieval or earlier date are visible within fields to the southwest of Purewell on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The site is currently redeveloped as a mix of housing, industrial workshops and a leisure centre (2).
The field boundaries align with the historic field system shown on the OS 1st Edition map (3) and comprise narrow linear strips bordering the road, with more rectilinear fields further into the marsh. These may therefore reflect field plots of both medieval and post medieval origin. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
Development had begun to expand into this area by 1972 (4).
