Please read our .

Summary

An enclosure of probable prehistoric date indicated by geophysical survey in 1996 in advance of a quarry extension. The form of the enclosure suggested that it was most likely to be late Iron Age or Romano-British in date. Further geophysical anomalies indicated a possible circular structure within the enclosure.

‘4.2 A small enclosure, which on morphological grounds appears to relate to a settlement site of later prehistoric or Romano-British date, lies within the northwest angle of the western field. There is a suggestion of an internal structure, probably circular, and a number of pits are also present. Some of the local ferrous debris may possibly be contemporary with the enclosure.’
