Full Description

A series of linear banks and lynchets to the east of Lewesden Farm, Stoke Abbott, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). The lynchets may partly derive from medieval strip lynchets, although a post medieval origin may be possible. The lower section of the site is shown as orchard on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The site is under scrubby vegetation and trees on the latest Google Earth imagery (3) and the lower section of the site is now a pond but there is some indication the lynchets survive in part. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
