Full Description
A series of undated linear banks to the south of Fir Farm, Broadwindsor, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). The linear banks are narrow but otherwise vary in form, some being straight and rectilinear, others more curving. Their date and function are unknown but they may reflect field boundaries and trackways, and possibly structures, although a natural origin for some of the linears is also possible. Some of the features may be associated with a military site to the north (MDO39016). They are still partially visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (2), although low scrub and woodland covers part of the area. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
