Monument record MDO39002 - Historic field boundaries, lynchets and trackway, Spring House, Broadwindsor

A series of linear banks and ditches to the south of Spring House, Broadwindsor, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s and 1970s. The banks and ditches appear to represent historic field boundaries, lynchets and a trackway, probably ranging between medieval and post medieval in origin. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

A series of linear banks and ditches to the south of Spring House, Broadwindsor, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1) and 1970s (2). The banks and ditches probably represent historic field boundaries, lynchets and trackways and could range between medieval and post medieval in origin. The ditched boundary is shown as a dotted line on the OS 1st Edition map (3) and may have fallen into partial disuse by this time. An aerial photograph of 1971 (4) suggests a trackway following the line of this boundary and edging around a small enclosure to the east (MDO38992) to join an historic trackway, now removed. The site is still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (5). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
