Full Description
A ditched historic field boundary to the east of Spring House, Broadwindsor, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). The boundary is slightly curvilinear in form and is located within a wider enclsoure of probable medieval origin, possibly an area of former open field associated with Honeycombe Farm. The boundary is not shown on the OS 1st Edition map (2) but is shown as disused on an aerial photograph of 1947 (1). The boundary appears to overlie a series of linear banks (MDO38997), which may be medieval in date. This suggests the boundary has a late post medieval origin, but an earlier date is possible if already disused by the late 19th century. The boundary is not visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (3). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
