Summary

A unit of ridge and furrow cultivation is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948, to the south west of Little Pitt, Pitt Farm, Whitchurch Canonicorum. The features lie within a possible field system of medieval origin (MDO38972) and may be contemporary with ti although a post medieval date is possible. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Full Description

A unit of ridge and furrow cultivation is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948, to the south west of Little Pitt, Pitt Farm, Whitchurch Canonicorum (1). The features lie within a possible field system of medieval origin (MDO38972) and may be contemporary with ti although a post medieval date is possible. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP, it has been plough-levelled and is no longer visible as an extant earthworks on recent Google Earth imagery (2).
