Full Description

Historic banked and ditched field boundaries are visible as earthworks to the north and northwest of Providence Cottage, Broadwindsor, on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1) and on the latest Lidar imagery (2). Their slightly curvilinear form suggest a possible medieval origin and they appear to sub divide a larger enclosure, also of probable medieval origin, possibly one of a series of fossilised medieval strips. As they sub divide this, however, a post medieval date is also possible. The site is no longer visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (3). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
