Summary

Two units of narrow ridge and furrow of probable post medieval date are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the east of Gummershaye Farm. The features are ruler straight and may be the result of 19th century steam ploughing although a 20th century origin is possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP. They are associated with fragments of a field system of medieval or later origin described separately in MDO38945. The site has been plough-levelled and is no longer visible on recent Google Earth imagery.

Full Description

Two units of narrow ridge and furrow of probable post medieval date are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the east of Gummershaye Farm (1). The features are ruler straight and may be the result of 19th century steam ploughing although a 20th century origin is possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP. They are associated with fragments of a field system of medieval or later origin described separately in MDO38945.
