Full Description
Units of ridged cultivation marks to the west of Manor Farm, Burstock, are visible as faint earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s (1) and 1970s (2). The width of the cultivation ridges is varied, potentially suggesting both medieval ridge and furrow and post medieval narrow ridge and furrow. An early 20th century date for some of the narrower cultivation is also possible. The units are contained with enclosures of probable medieval origin, potentially an area of former medieval open field associated with Manor Farm. The site is no longer visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (3). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
