Full Description

Two units of narrow ridge and furrow are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the east of Lower Shave Close Coppice, Holdscroft Farm (1). The spacing between the ridges is 4m so too wide for modern ploughing but much narrower than medieval ridge and furrow; the features may therefore be the result of post medieval cultivation although later 20th century ploughing is possible. The cultivation ridges were still extant as recently as 2008 being visible on Google Earth imagery although they may have since been plough-levelled (2). The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
