Summary

A unit of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the east of Knapp Farm. The parallel features run NNE-SSW and are ruler straight and may be the result of 19th century steam ploughing although a 20th century origin is possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP

Full Description

A unit of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the east of Knapp Farm (1). The parallel features run NNE-SSW aand are 4m apart so too wide for modern ploughing but much narrower than medieval ridge and furrow. They are ruler straight and may be the result of 19th century steam ploughing although a 20th century origin is possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP, they have been plough-levelled and no longer visible on recent Google Earth imagery (2).
