Monument record MDO38861 - Post medieval cultivation marks, Church House Farm, Whitchurch Canonicorum

Three units of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the west of Church House Farm. The features are ruler straight and may be the result of 19th century steam ploughing although a 20th century origin is possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Three units of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948 to the west of Church House Farm (1). The spacing between the ridges is 4-5m so too wide for modern ploughing but narrower than typical medieval ridge and furrow. Two of the units are ruler straight and may be the result of 19th century steam ploughing although a 20th century origin is possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP. The northern portion of the site has been plough-levelled, the southern unit of ridging is still extant on lidar imagery (2).
