Full Description
A unit of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947 to the west of Higher Sminhay Farm (1). The spacing between the ridges is 4m so too wide for modern ploughing but much narrower than medieval ridge and furrow. The features may be the result of post medieval cultivation although later 20th century ploughing is possible. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP. The site has been plough-levelled and the ridging is no longer visible on recent Google Earth imagery (2).
