Monument record MDO38788 - Post medieval extractive pits, Sandpit Mill Farm, Broadwindsor

Post medieval extractive pits to the east of Sandpit Mill Farm, Broadwindsor, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s and on the latest Lidar imagery. The extractive pits are not shown on the OS 1st Edition map but are likely to be post medieval or later in origin. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Post medieval extractive pits to the east of Sandpit Mill Farm, Broadwindsor, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1) and on the latest Lidar imagery (2). The extractive pits are not shown on the OS 1st Edition map but are likely to be post medieval or later in origin. An extensive area of quarrying around 235m long, possibly extending to around 325m long, is located to the east of Sandpit Mill Farm. Two smaller quarries around 130m and 50m long are located to the south of this, the smallest showing as under plantation by the time of the OS 1st Edition map (3). The site is still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (4). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
