Monument record MDO38746 - Historic field boundaries, Hursey, Broadwindsor

Historic ditched field boundaries to the west of Hursey, Broadwindsor, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s. Their narrow rectilinear form and alignment suggest a probable post medieval origin, although an earlier date is possible. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Historic ditched field boundaries to the west of Hursey, Broadwindsor, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). Their narrow rectilinear form and alignment suggest a probable post medieval origin, although an earlier date is possible. They are located within a wider field pattern of probable medieval origin but appear to align with straighter boundaries potentially associated with a phase of post medieval re-organisation. The boundaries are still faintly visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (2). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
