Full Description
Historic banked and ditched field boundaries to the southeast of Burstock Grange, Burstock, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). They are also clearly visible on aerial photographs of the 1970s (2). The rectilinear form and alignment of the boundaries may indicate a post medieval origin, although they are located within a wider field pattern of probable medeival origin so an earlier date is possible. The sourthernmost enclosure shown on an aerial photograph of 1947 (1) appears to have narrow parallel cultivation marks (MDO38590) aligned within it, probably post medieval narrow ridge and furrow. The site is visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (3) and was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
