Full Description

A large area of extraction about 292m in length to the east of Pound Cottage, Burstock, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1) and on the latest Lidar imagery (2). The site is not shown on the OS 1st Edition map but shows extensive workings in an aerial photograph taken in 1947 (1). Its southern extent may respect a post medieval field boundary (MDO38732) not shown on the OS 1st Edition map, suggesting a probable post medieval origin, although a later date is possible. The site is visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (3) and was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
