Monument record MDO38723 - Historic field boundaries, Manor Farm, Burstock

Historic banked field boundaries to the northeast of Manor Farm are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s and on the latest Lidar imagery. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Historic banked field boundaries to the northeast of Manor Farm are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1) and on the latest Lidar imagery (2). They also show well on verticl aerial photographs taken in 1971 (3). The linear parallel boundaries correspond with two additonal linears to the west, shown on the OS 1st Edition map (4). Together this group forms a series of narrow plots similar to medieval burgage plots or strip fields. This may suggest these boundaries are medieval in origin, although a later date is possible. The site is also visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (5). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
