Full Description

An extensive area of probable post medieval extraction to the southwest of Burstock is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1) and on a Lidar survey of 2010 (2). The area of quarrying extends for around 188m and encompasses one field, extending southeast into a second. The ground has a slight natural look to it but the place-name Quarry Mead to the northeast may indicate extraction over natural disturbance. The Lidar survey of 2010 (2) shows a series of possible extractive pits within this wider area of disturbance. The site is still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (2). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
