Full Description
Plantation ridges associated with a removed historic orchard to the southwest of Childhay Manor Farm are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s (1). The orchard is shown on the OS 1st Edition historic mapping (2), suggesting a post medieval or earlier date. An aerial photograph taken in 1971 (3) suggests the east to west running ridges may have extended south beyond the area of post medieval orchard as shown on the OS 1st Edition historic map (2), possibly indicating the orchard was once greater in extent, but this is not certain. The plantation ridges are no longer visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (4). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
