Full Description

Post medieval narrow ridge and furrow to the south of Childhay is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s (1). The cultivation marks lie within an area of probable medieval enclosure, possibly part relict open field, that has seen some post medieval sub division. The cultivation marks probably reflect post medieval narrow ridge and furrow but a medieval origin is also possible. Low parallel lynchets potentially associated with these cultivation marks are still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (3). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
