Full Description

Historic ditched and banked field boundaries to the south of Childhay are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s (1) and on a Lidar survey of 2010 (2). The east to west aligned boundaries sub divide the east and west slopes either side of a section of the Temple Brook. A similar boundary to the north of this group is shown as extant on the 1st Edition OS historic mapping, suggesting a probable post medieval origin to these boundaries, although an earlier date is also possible. The boundaries are partially visible still on the latest Google Earth imagery (3). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
