Full Description

The hotel had a rendered south front and was divided into three bays by pilasters; the central bay was gabled. There was a porch (probably a later addition) with cast iron columns over the central doorway. <1>

The hotel building has been demolished (in about 2004) and the site redeveloped.

‘Unless otherwise described, the following monuments are of the 18th century and are two-storeyed, or single-storeyed with dormer-windowed attics, and have coursed rubble walls and tiled or slated roofs. … (25) The Royal Hotel (81112640) is of the first half of the 19th century. The S. front is rendered and divided into three bays by shallow pilasters; the centre bay is gabled. The doorway in the centre bay has a porch with cast-iron columns, probably a later addition.’
