Full Description
Post medieval extractive pits to the northeast of Pilsdon Barn are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). The northernmost and largest of the pits measures around 53m by 125m, the smaller one to the south around 33m by 10m. A possible trackway to the southeast of the southernmost area of extraction may be associated with these. The extractive pits are still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (2) but the possible trackway is no longer evident. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
