Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit measuring around 35m by 24m is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). It is one of a group of three small extractive pits either side of Cockpit Hill to the northeast of Pilsdon Pen, the other two (MDO 38561) lying within Pilsdon CP. The extractive pit is still visible on vertical aerial photographs taken in 2009 (2) and on the latest Google Earth imagery (3). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
