Full Description

Undated banked field boundaries to the south of Lower Newnham Farm are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s (1). Their regular linear form suggests a post medieval origin, although an earlier date is possible. The irregular field pattern and curving boundaries directly associated with Lower Newnham Farm suggests an early medieval or medieval origin and these straighter linear boundaries may reflect sub-division of this during the later medieval or early post medieval period. A possible post medieval drainage ditch or trackway is visible as a ditched linear feature adjacent to one of the north to south running boundaries. The site is still visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (2). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
