Full Description
A series of curvilinear banked and ditched boundaries to the east of Attisham are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1970s. The curvilinear form of some of these boundaries may suggest a medieval origin, but a later date is possible. A straighter banked linear to the north of this set may be post medieval in date, potentially indicating that several phases of enclosure took place here. An alternative possible interpretation is that the v-shaped eastern end of the boundary arrangement indicates a stock droveway of medieval or later date leading from Attisham Farm onto the higher pasture ground on Pilsdon Pen. These boundaries remain partially visible on the latest Google Earth imagery (2). The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
