Full Description
Two undated sub-rectangular mounds measuring around 8m by 5m are faintly visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s (1). They are shown more clearly on aerial photographs taken in the 1970s (2) but their function and date remain unknown. Their sub rectangular form may indicate underlying structures but this is not clear. A probable post medieval or later origin is most likely but they lie just over 100m southwest of a possible Roman road running from Grimstone to Exeter (English Heritage 1326468) so an older date is possible. The mounds are no longer visible on the latest Google Earth imagery. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
