Full Description

Town Bridge is probably on the site of 'Barnabesbrigg' or 'Barnaby Bridge , in the town of Gillingham', mentioned in the
perambulations of the Royal Forest of Gillingham in 1300 and 1568 (a) (see ST 82 NW 10 for Royal Forest). <1>

ST 80782652. An ashlar-built bridge over Shreen Water (listed as Town Bridge by D.O.E.) with semi-circular arches and cutwater on the north side only; one stone is inscribed 'County Bridge 1800'. <3-4>

‘(3) BRIDGE (80782652), carrying High Street across the Shreen Water, is of ashlar and has two semicircular arches with a cut-water on the N. side only; the parapet walls have rounded copings. One stone is inscribed 'County Bridge 1800'.’
