Summary

An enclosure visible as a cropmark on air photographs. Irregular in shape, it comprises up to three concentric circuits of ditch. Pottery ranging in date from the 1st century BC to the 2nd century AD has been found on the surface. A well in the outermost enclosure was excavated by Martin Green, and contained quantities of mid to late 1st century AD pottery.

Full Description

ST 953 153. Enclosure, probably of Iron Age date at Farnham. First seen as a cropmark in 1982, the enclosure is an irregular rhombus and comprises 2 ditches. A little pottery found at the site spans the mid 1st century BC to the late 2nd century AD. <1>

A well at the site was excavated in 1984 to a depth of 28.2m. The average diameter was 1.15m. Large amounts of mid-late C1st AD pottery and fossal remains were recovered. <2>

Irregular in shape, it comprises up to three concentric circuits of ditch (the outermost circuit is not visible in places, and seems to merge with the middle circuit at one point). Pottery ranging in date from the 1st century BC to the 2nd century AD has been found on the surface. <5>
