Full Description
Two ditched enclosures with associated pits and a possible field boundary are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs in fields to the north of Whitcombe Road, Beaminster (1). The western enclosure is single ditched and 56m by 47m across, two large pits lie to it's west. The second enclosure is sub-square, 40m across. It has a central inner enclosure 15m across and a rectilinear enclosure (13m by 9m) abutting it's outer north-east corner. A linear ditch to the east may be contemporary or relate to the later medieval or later field system. The features are considered to be the remains of a prehistoric or Roman settlement and were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
