Monument record MDO37621 - Enclosure south of Chancery Coppice, Moor Crichel

A plough-levelled, irregular, sub-rectangular enclosure and possible associated internal and external features, all of uncertain date, but most likely Iron Age or Roman, seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs dated 2005. The enclosure is axially aligned approximately north west- to south east, and measures at least 105 metres by 55 metres. There appears to be an inturned entrance causeway centrally on the narrow south-eastern side, which is also double-ditched (at least to the south of the entrance), possibly for defence or as part of a localised trackway/droveway. On the north-western side there is what appears to be a more exaggerated inturned entrance, although this is rather less clearly defined. The south side of the enclosure is also poorly defined, but can be discerned at its western end.

There are other traces of linear and possibly discrete features external to the enclosure, but these are not sufficiently well-defined or closely associated to warrant inclusion within the mapped extents of the monument.
